Even Birds Love a Little Sun After the Rain

Lately things have been overly dry in Florida, so we are thankful for every little bit of rain that we get. The past two days it has begun to rain just as I was ready to get outside to do a little bird watching, so I have had to postpone things a bit. It slightly disrupts my routine schedule, but I’m flexible, so it’s no big deal. The rain does tend to cool things off somewhat, and at least yesterday it stayed overcast for quite a while afterwards. The sun did make a few, short appearances (this is Florida, after all) during the overcast period. During one of those moments, it was lighting up an area in the pokeberry bushes and this little Carolina chickadee (Poecile carolinensis) flew in and did some sunbathing. It wasn’t at all cold, but she was a little damp from the rain and the sun must have felt good and helped to dry her feathers. You can almost see a look of contentment on her face. I suppose that for pretty much all of us, it’s nice to see the sun, even after a brief period of rain.
