Cedar Key Isn’t Just About Beautiful Birds
Not too long ago, I went out to Cedar Key in search of white pelicans. I had no luck in that department, but I did see plenty of other beautiful birds, including several of our other winter visitors. Although Cedar Key is always a great place to see birds, it’s also a great place to see all sorts of other interesting nature, too. In past trips I’ve found flowers, spiders, butterflies, and of course, beautiful sea scapes. On this trip, it turned out to be mollusks and crustaceans. On that day, I stopped at Shell Mound before going into Cedar Key proper and found hundreds of these marsh periwinkle snails (Littoraria irrorata) on the beach. They’re always interesting because the shells often have pretty yellow and brown pattern, and I just love the spiral pattern of the shells. I took quite a few photos, but this was one of the prettiest ones that I saw that day.
