The Beautiful Northern Cardinals are Everywhere Right Now

The first batch of fledgling songbirds are out of the nests and moving around, often with one or both parents with them. The first ones that I saw were young northern cardinals (Cardinalis cardinalis). All these youngsters has caused an explosion in my cardinal population. Everywhere you look, cardinals are flying around, so it just seemed appropriate to take a few shots of them in flight. This pretty little female was headed very purposefully from one end of a large clearing to the other. I have no idea where she had come from or what her ultimate goal was, but she was a prime candidate for this type of photo. Often songbirds zig and zag while flying, making them hard to photograph, but she was headed in a straight line making it somewhat easier.
