Marsh Bristlegrass is Beautiful During the Summer, Too

Back in November I posted a picture of the seed head of a piece of marsh bristlegrass or bristly foxtail (Setaria parviflora). The grass and the seeds were fully mature and were a gorgeous variety of fall colors. I liked the photo because of the colors, but even more so because of the texture of all those hairy spikes on the seed head. So when I went past the same patch of bristlegrass at the beginning of the summer, I had to stop for some more photos. The colors are completely different right now, but the texture of all those spikes still really intrigues me. The way that they pick up the light is just incredible and it brings out the colors perfectly. Just like the fall photo, I think this image shows the colors of summer very nicely. Grasses almost always make interesting subjects, but I must say, I’m especially fond of marsh bristlegrass.
