Colorful Yellow Rumped Warblers Can Be Peaceful Little Birds

One of the things that watching birds will teach you is that various species can have vastly different personalities. Some, like the oven birds are reclusive, shy, and rarely make a sound. Others, like the blue jays and crows are raucous and loud, announcing their arrival long before they actually get there. The cardinals sing a wonderful song, but they fight with each other constantly. On the other hand the little yellow rumped warblers (Setophaga coronata) also sing beautifully, but are much more good natured. It’s not unusual for them to show up in small groups and to share the resources nicely between each other and with the other birds. It’s also not unusual for them to find a good vantage point, usually up in a tree, and simply perch and watch what’s going on around them. When they are foraging for insects they are very active little birds, but those moments of quiet reserve are what makes me enjoy them the most.
