The Beautiful Tufted Titmouse is a Year Round Resident

Right now we have quite a few birds here that are only around during the winter. Some others have left to head even further south for the colder part of the year. But there are also lots of birds that stay here year round. One of the most common in my area is the tufted titmouse (Baeolophus bicolor). It’s a rare day that I don’t see at least one at one or both feeding stations. They mainly eat seeds, but in colder weather they will also sometimes eat the higher energy containing mealworms and suet. Today the weather was perfect. Sunny with temps in the mid 70s and just a light breeze, but we have the coldest weather so far this year headed in over the next couple of days. I will make sure that all my little avian friends, both migrants and residents, have plenty of both to help get them through it.
