Colorful Cardinal are Beautiful When Surrounded by Fall Foliage

Most of the young cardinals (Cardinalis cardinalis) seem to have moved on to find their own homes and territories. There are no longer large groups of cardinal descending out of the brush all together and most of the chasing and harassment among them has stopped. A couple are still hanging on here, but Poppa seems to be far more relaxed than he has in months. This afternoon he was perched on one of my fences, enjoying the warmer weather and looking quite contented. I liked the way he was almost fully surrounded by underbrush, much of which is turning yellow since its fall. It seemed to bring out his vibrant red and made him all the more handsome.
