This Colorful Little Tufted Titmouse Wants to Say Hello

The tufted titmice (Baeolophus bicolor) are one of my favorite little songbirds because they’re always full of personality. Many of the small birds like to keep to the underbrush or hide in the foliage in the trees. The titmice, though, are usually one of the first, if not the first, to come to a new feeder or accept it if I move things around. They are also one of the most willing birds to try new foods when I add them. They tend to approach these changes with cautious curiosity. This little bird was feeding on some of the offerings that I put on the ground for birds like the towhees and the doves. I was fairly close, but the bird didn’t seem frightened by me, just interested. We shared a quick “good morning” glance and the bird went back to picking out the food it wanted.
