Gulf Fritillaries are Some Really Colorful Butterflies
A short time ago I showed everyone the spiky orange caterpillar of the gulf fritillary butterfly (Agraulis vanillae), so I thought I should show you the beautiful butterflies that they become. Like most other brushfooted butterflies, it’s brightly colored with oranges, yellows, and brown, it has far more bright orange than most of the others. They are pretty common throughout central Florida, but they seem to really like my passion fruit vines, so I usually have quite a few on my land. This one was fluttering around in just that area the afternoon that I took these photos. It kept checking out the passion fruit flowers, then floating around on the breeze, and eventually returning to the flowers. It seemed like such a simple, peaceful existence.
