A Little Family of Sandhill Cranes is a Beautiful Sight
In early May I took a trip to the Lower Suwannee Wildlife Refuge and Cedar Key. On my way there I found this little family of Sandhill cranes (Antigone canadensis) walking along the road out to the Refuge. The two adults were moving fairly slowly and stopping to pick at the ground for insects and grass seeds. The little colt pretty much strutted along trying to stay near Mom and Dad. Every once in awhile one of the adults would feed the little one some tidbit that they had found. They took note of me when I first stopped to take some photos, but it didn’t take long for them to go back to their activities and after that they ignored me completely. It was absolutely wonderful watching them go about their day and mind that little one.
