A Little Peace and Quiet in the Woods is Great for Everyone

One of my favorite ways to spend time is out in the woods on a peaceful spring afternoon by myself. Apparently, I am not alone in feeling this way. Over the weekend, I came across this hermit thrush (Catharus guttatus) perched on a low tree branch. It seemed to be very content simply enjoying the solitude and the quiet of the afternoon. I had no desire to disturb the bird, so I took a couple of shots and moved on about my business. Before long this bird will be facing a lengthy migration back to its breeding grounds in the northern United States and Canada, so I felt it deserved whatever rest and relaxation it could get before starting that journey.
