Squirrels are Interesting Because They Have Very Expressive Body Language
One of the reasons that I love watching and photographing wildlife is that they are often entertaining. This little eastern grey squirrel (Sciurus carolinensis) was a prime example. She was busy eating at the feeding station when another squirrel came along. Squirrels are pretty territorial, so they don’t tend to share well. The other squirrel was obviously frightened by her and didn’t make any attempt to squabble with her. When she first heard the intruder, this one popped her head up from behind the ivy while she was still chewing a mouthful of food. When she realized that the intruder had no intention of challenging her, she swished her tail in annoyance before going right back to eating. If squirrels were capable of it, I’m sure she would have rolled her eyes. Like I said, entertaining and definitely never dull.
