As I walked around in my yard watering some of the plants I noticed a mourning dove (Zenaida macroura) up in one of the trees. It was getting close to sundown and I wasn’t sure if there was enough light to get much of a shot, but I decided to try. I was expecting the silhouette since the sun was sinking behind the bird, and had purposely placed the sun directly behind the bird. What I wasn’t expecting was the lens flare with a slight rainbow effect. I did increase the color slightly in post processing, but even the original was pretty and definitely an interesting, if unexpected phenomenon.
