It’s Really Great to See White Eyed Vireos Again

Even though they are Florida resident birds all year long, I almost never see white eyed vireos (Vireo griseus) during the winter. The last couple of days, though, I’ve seen several of them hunting insects up in the trees. I usually hear them singing before I see them, which was the case with this one. After hearing them, there is the challenge of trying to find them. They are very small and extremely active. They also blend in with the foliage, but by watching for movement sometimes I can find them. I actually caught this one hunting and catching a small caterpillar. It didn’t take long for the bird to swallow the caterpillar and then it was back to the hunt.
