Colorful Robins are Usually Considered a Spring Bird
As a general rule, people in the United States look on the American robin (Turdus migratorius) as a spring bird. Their migration through the southern US is usually a strong sign that warm days, wildflowers, and green plants are on the way. Further north, where they spend the summers and breed, their arrival usually coincides with the arrival of other migrant species and the onset of warmer weather. This year, though, the robin migration in the spring was minimal, but we did get huge flocks coming through in the fall. They’ve all gone further south by now, but they were an unexpected treat and sometimes that’s better than the expected one.
