Winters Seeds and Berries Can Be Beautiful to Wildlife and People, Too
Once winter sets in, most of our flowers, mushrooms, and even a lot of leaves are gone. It may seem like that provides us with very little as far as plant (and fungal) life goes, but what are often overlooked are the berries, fruits, and seeds that are produced by the summer and fall wildflowers. To wildlife they are things of great beauty because they represent the food that they need to survive the winter. But to people they have another type of beauty; artistic beauty. Nature has done a remarkable job of creating a huge variety of seeds, fruits, and berries, all of which function to spread and produce next years plants and flowers. They come in all sorts of sizes, shapes, and colors, so if you pay attention to them, it’s not hard to find beauty in many of them.
