The Interesting Eastern Grey Squirrels Love Snacks
Eastern grey squirrels (Sciurus carolinensis) are all over Florida and much of the eastern United States and Canada. They are an animal that has learned to live around people, so they can also be found from small towns to giant cities as long as there are places to nest and food to eat. I know a lot of bird enthusiasts don’t much like grey squirrels coming to their feeders, but I don’t object. Because of that, there is rarely a morning that at least one of them doesn’t show up to have a bite. I was somewhat surprised to discover that not only do they like the bird seed and fruit, but they also like the suet and mealworms, especially as cold weather sets in. Being frequent visitors, they also get their photos taken often, but most of those images are not especially interesting. I did really like the way the winter sun lit up the squirrel’s bushy tail and her ears in this shot, though. It almost made her a glow, and it certainly looked warm even though it was actually a pretty chilly morning.
