Lynx Spiders Often Love to Hunt on Flowers
Green Lynx spiders (Peucetia viridans) are well known for their prowess as ambush hunters. Their bright green color allows them to easily hide, unnoticed on plant stems and leaves. They are also known to hide underneath flowers that are popular with pollinators. In fact, it’s not unusual to find them on quite a variety of wild and domestic flowers. I was really pleased to find this one on top of a Leveanworth’s tickseed flower (Coreopsis leavenworthii), though. I was actually photographing the flowers and the spider was a really nice surprise. As you would expect, it didn’t stay on top of the flower for long. Basically, it was just passing through on its way to hunt someplace where it would be much less conspicuous.
