You Never Know Where Interesting Fungi will be Found
On my most recent hike in Gothe State Forest I went a little ways off the trail while following an eastern bluebird. Unfortunately, it stayed too far away for me to get a photo and eventually disappeared into the woods. My efforts were not entirely unfruitful, though. While standing in the clearing where I first saw the bluebird, I noticed a single little mushroom poking up through the leaf litter. I was rather surprised because we didn’t get much rain in August after Hurricane Debby came through. The leaf litter was pretty dry, but this one little mushroom was not only surviving, but it looked to be quite healthy. It just goes to show you that nature always has little surprises to share if you just look around.
