Old, Long Dead Wood Makes for a Beautiful Piece of Art
On one of my many hikes in the Gothe State Forest, I came across this long dead tree that was slowly decaying and dropping bits and pieces on the trail. The trunk of the tree was still standing, though it had definitely seen better days. The bark was long gone and the wood had several types of lichens growing on it. This particular area, that looked like it had contained a branch at one time, had some amazing wood textures running in several directions. I’m a big sucker for woody textures, so I had to take a few photos. This one was my favorite, and I tried to process it in such a way that those fabulous textures were really emphasized.
