Blue Dashers are Incredible Gems of the Dragonfly World
Along with numerous flowers, come numerous insects, and along with insects come predators. One type of highly successful insect predators are the dragonflies. With their large eyes, they have very keen vision, and with their streamlined body shape they are extremely fast. Despite that fact that most of them are beautiful to watch, they can also be quite aggressive. One of the prettiest and most aggressive dragonflies is the blue dasher (Pachydiplax longipennis). They can eat up to ten percent of their body weight daily in other insects, which adds up to several hundred each day. This makes blue dashers a great means of pest control in your garden, so if you see one there, remember they are helpful to your plants and flowers, not harmful. And they add a touch of elegance, too!
