It’s Surprising How Quickly the Moon Sinks in the Morning

One morning when I was out and about pretty early, the moon was still up in the sky even though the sun was already up. I love seeing the moon in the morning or the afternoon, I pulled over to get a photo of it. I placed myself in a position where the moon would be far enough above the power lines that they wouldn’t be in the picture. By the time I had gotten out my camera and had it set up (just a minute or less), the moon was touching the power line. It made me realize that it was sinking quite quickly, and I decided to document the process by taking a series of images as it happened. That gave me the idea to do this composite photo that showed what I observed over the course of only four minutes. I was truly surprised by how quickly the moon was racing to set below the horizon.
