Morning Rains Can Result in Beautiful Afternoon Images
On Wednesday we had some pretty wicked morning weather with severe thunderstorms, wind, rain, and a tornado watch. Even after the front passed through, it rained for quite awhile, but once the rain stopped it turned into a pretty pleasant afternoon. When the sun started to peek out from behind the clouds, it gave me the urge to get outside. We have loads of wildflowers blooming right now, so I decided to take advantage of the earlier rain and photograph some of them with water droplets all over them. This one is a twiggy mullein flower (Verbascum virgatum). They like a lot of direct sunlight and tend to close up in the evening as the sun goes down or during cloudy weather. This one was just far enough open so that you could get a glimpse of the beautifully colored center structures. The water droplets add a really nice touch to an already gorgeous flower.
