One of my Regular Guests is this Beautiful Little Squirrel
Probably my most consistent regular visitor to my feeding station is this little female Eastern grey squirrel (Sciurus carolinensis). She is usually waiting for me in the mornings when I take the food out, and then she hoards it until she has eaten her fill. She will run off any other squirrels that get too close to her, and she will even occasionally run off the birds. I suspect that many of the other squirrels that stay in my yard are her offspring since I know she’s been around for a couple of years, and I know she’s been hugely pregnant and later nursing numerous times. Being the matriarch, she also seems to be the dominant individual. I don’t mind feeding her or any of the others, but when they argue, it frightens the birds, so I ended up having to put the food out in several different areas. That seems to keep everyone happy and well fed.
