Florida is Full of Beautiful Small Creeks and Streams
I may be a little prejudiced, but I truly believe that central Florida is one of the prettiest places in the world. We have our beaches, our swamps, our pine and oak forests, and numerous other habitats. You can usually find just about anything you like (unless it’s mountains). And through all of these environments run hundred of spring fed rivers, creeks, and streams. Many of the smaller waterways aren’t even named except by locals because there are just too many. This particular creek does have a name, and was a big part of my life for a number of years. This is Pepper Creek that is located in Homosassa, Florida and is part of the state nature park there. When I first returned to Florida after graduate school I ended up working there for about four years. My job included doing a variety of different things, including driving boat tours up and down Pepper Creek. It was a little blast from the past when we decided to walk the Pepper Creek Trail (which didn’t exist when I worked there) the weekend after Thanksgiving. I was surprised that except for the addition of the trail, things didn’t look a lot different from how I remembered them. This is the view from the boat dock down the creek towards the main entrance to the park. As you can see, this view beat the heck out of a cubicle in an office as a work space!
