I was absolutely captivated by the incredible focus of this majestic great egret (Ardea alba) as it gracefully hunted for fish in the shallow waters near Cedar Key. It was just one of several birds that I watched and photographed on my last trip out there. As I watched, witnessing this mesmerizing sight reminded me of the delicate balance of nature and how every creature has its own unique way of surviving and thriving. It’s truly fascinating to observe the intricate techniques that the great egret employs in its fishing endeavors. With its long, slender beak and sharp eyesight, this magnificent bird is able to spot even the tiniest movement beneath the water’s surface. It patiently waits for the perfect moment to strike, swiftly plunging its beak into the water to snatch its unsuspecting prey. It’s remarkable how nature has equipped the great egret with such precision and skill for survival. This encounter served as a reminder of the beauty and wonder that can be found in the natural world around us. Since I’ve photographed great egrets several times now, I decided to try something a bit new in my processing. It’s not something I would do with every image, but I like the artistic flair it gives the shot. I’d love to know what you think.
