The Clouds in the East Can be Beautiful at Sunset

Everyone knows that the sun rises in the east and sets in the west, so if you’re going to watch one or the other, you know which sky to look at. Well, usually anyhow. On Monday evening I was headed home at just about sunset time. The western sky was very cloudy with a storm coming in and there were a lot of tree lining that side of the road. I couldn’t see much color in the western sky at all, but what colorful light there was that was getting through those clouds lit up this cloud bank beautifully. It’s unusual to get this kind of color in the eastern sky when the west is rather drab, but nature can be funny sometimes. Here’s a little bit closer view of the same cloud bank all lit up. The color lasted for only about 30 to 45 seconds, so I was lucky to be in a good place to see it when it happened.
