Lichens Can Be Surprisingly Colorful
The last time I went for a little walk in Gothe State Forest, one of the prettiest and most interesting things I came across was this aged dead tree trunk that had several types of lichens on it. I was really surprised to see the various colors and textures of the lichens. Of course, I loved the texture of the old wood, too. I have always been drawn to wood textures, both rough and polished, and I find myself taking photos of trees, tree bark, and dead trees all the time. When you add in some lichens with their own colors and textures, of course I would be drawn to it. I just couldn’t pass up the chance to photograph it. I did enhance the color a little bit, but really not all that much. I did want to bring out the light blue color in the flat whitish lichen that covered much of the aged wood on either side of the old knot hole. I really find this combination of colors and textures to be very attractive. It’s another instance where nature shows off her amazing abstract artistic talents.
