These Beautiful Coreopsis Flowers are Magnets for Pollinators
Recently, the Leavenworth’s tickseed flowers (Coreopsis leavenworthii) have been popping up everywhere, which is great for our pollinators (and for photographers that are looking for pollinators to photograph). The end of last week I stopped in several areas that were full of these flowers while I was on one of my hikes. In each of these places, I found several types of bees, wasps, and beetles feeding on the nectar and collecting pollen. There were a bunch of these gorgeous pure green sweat bees (Augochlora pura) in every one of the places where I stopped, so I took advantage of that to get plenty of images. These were my two favorites. I really like the contrast between the bright yellow flowers and the green of the bees. Both bees have loads of pollen stuck to the short little hairs that cover their legs and parts of their bodies. That shows you that they’ve been hard at work, doing what bees do best.
