Swamps Can Be Beautiful in the Early Light
This little swamp is just around the corner from my house, and I have driven by it thousands of times. I never really paid it much attention until I began my photography journey. Even then, when I first started I scoured it for signs of wading birds or water fowl, and I noted several times that it was really pretty, especially when the sun was first coming up, but I never took any photos. I will say, that’s partly because it’s on a blind curve, so to stop safely I need to walk a ways back to the area. I don’t at all mind the walk, but that early in the morning, I’m usually on my way to work and don’t have much time to stop. But one morning, I made a special point to get going about 20 minutes early so I’d have time to stop and get some images of the swamp and of some of the surrounding wildflowers. It turned out to be thirty minutes well spent (yes, twenty minutes weren’t really enough!), since it allowed me to get the above shot just as the sun was coming up over the trees and the fog was still over the water. I can’t think of a better way to spend a few morning minutes.
