Beautiful Beeblossom Flowers are Popping Up Everywhere
Southern beeblossom (Oenothera guara) is one of several wild flowering plants that seems to be doing quite well despite our dry spring so far. They should not be confused with the beeblossom species in the genus Guara (although it did previously belong to that genus, but has been reclassified). They are kind of gangly tall plants, but their long stems are topped by some very pretty, small pink flowers. Here in Florida they are considered a weed and can be found along roadsides, in pastures, in forest clearings, and many other open, sunny areas. They are all over the place in our neighborhood, including in my front yard. This one is growing on the right of way in front of my house. I was picking up my mail and happen to glance at it and realized that the sun was shining in thin rays through the fence and onto the flower. It seemed like a sign that I was to take some pictures, so I did. I live on a dirt road that is very dusty right now, and the dust in the air really emphasized the light rays. I did increased it a bit more and turned them from a dull brownish hue to a more pleasing bluish color in post processing. The photo was nice before, but I thought those touches gave it an extra bit of pop. I hope you do, too.
