Dreams of the Woods Might Look Something Like This
As I have stated before, I love doing work that includes both photography and drawing. This particular piece is an artistic reboot, if you will, of a landscape photo that I shared earlier. The original image was titled “Light in the Pines” and was taken on a hike in Gothe State Forest. After I shared that photo, one of my friends suggested that it might be a good image to use to make one of my changed color drawings. I agreed with him and have been working on it off and on since then. I tried my usual polychromatic color changing techniques and wasn’t very pleased with the results, so instead of changing lots of colors, I tried changing the color of the whole photo and I really liked the purple rendition. It looked sort of dreamlike to me, but the purple made the sky too dark. Lightening the sky made a huge difference and created a dreamy haze around the top parts of the trees. Once I was satisfied with the photo, I drew in some bubbles, sparkles that reminded me of fireflies, and a bird flying through the scene. It might not be a perfect dream, but it’s my idea of what a woodland dream might look like. I have to thank my friend and fellow veterinarian (as well as a musical artist), Dave, for the suggestion. This probably didn’t turn out the way either of us imagined, but it’s pretty cool.
