The Woods are Full of Amazing Butterflies Right Now
Butterflies are all over the place in the woods right now. I’ve been out on the trails at Gothe State Park, on my property, and behind our office and I’m seeing butterflies wherever I go. They have not been easy to photograph though since they all seem very intent on eating and finding mates. None of them are staying put anywhere for very long. When I was out in Gothe last week the two most prominent species by far were the Palamedes swallowtails (Papilio palamedes) and the zebra swallowtails (Protographium marcellus). I didn’t manage to get any decent images of the Palamedes swallowtail (not for a lack of trying!), but I was able to get this picture of the zebra swallowtail. Even though I didn’t get every shot I wanted to (who does), I consider it a very worthwhile trip.
