Tamarisks are Well Known for Their Beautiful Flowers

These gorgeous little flowers are not native to the United States, and in some places are considered invasive. They do attract plenty of insects, though. I discovered them growing near the Bailey Trails section of Gothe State Forest. They were also growing along a number of the roads running through and around the area between my home and my office. They bloom in the fall for just a couple of weeks. By now they’re all gone for another year, but I really do like the irregular, soft petals and the bright red anthers on the long stamens.
