These Two Colorful Beauties are Summer Favorites
Summer in central Florida is filled with bright colors, especially oranges and yellows. These two are a couple of my brightly colored favorites. The flower is a Leavenworth’s tickseed (Coreopsis leavenworthii), which is very common around here this time of the year, and is closely related to the black-eyed Susan. The little moth is a black dotted spragueia moth (Spragueia oragrus), which is a species of bird dropping moths (so named for their splotchy markings). They are a tiny little moth, so many people never notice them, but they are well worth the closer look. This one was feeding on one of the tickseed flowers that is growing along the road outside my house. I happened on it while I was photographing the flowers. You can see why they are two of my favorites, and together they are quite stunning.
