Mimosas Produce a Beautiful, Fluffy Spring Flower
It’s the time of the year when the mimosa trees are covered in their large, fluffy, pink flowers. They are exceptional flowers both because of their bright pink color and their unusual structure. Right now there are quite a few of these trees growing all along the roads into our neighborhood and along some of the wooded areas that I pass on my way to the office (as well as lots of other places in our county). The flowers will last for a few weeks, but even once they are gone, the beautiful green leaves and interesting structure of the trees make them pleasant to look at. Come fall, the spring flowers will have become elongated green seed pods. The biggest drawback to these gorgeous trees is that they are not native to this country and that they tend to be invasive. Fortunately, at least around here, they don’t seem to be problematic.
