Narrow Leaf Plantain has Interesting Textures and Shapes
One of the common roadside “weeds” that grows around here most of the year is Lamb’s tongue or narrow leaf plantain (Plantago lanceolata). It’s a very versatile plant that will grow in lots of places as long as there is direct sunlight. In my yard, it starts sprouting as soon as the frost is definitely over, and it starts flowering shortly after that. It will grow and produce it’s tiny little halos of flowers all summer and well into the fall. In south Florida it will grow and flower year round. Even though most people classify it as a weed, I think it’s very attractive and it makes a good ground cover. I also love to photograph it since I love all it’s interesting textures. I also find the shape of the flower head and halos of flowers very interesting and pretty.
