There are Just So Many Beautiful Wildflowers Blooming Now
When I stopped on the way home to photograph some spring wildflowers that are growing along the roadsides, I found several other things besides the Drummond’s phlox, which is the most abundant wildflower right now. That’s one of several places I’ve run into both the white sweetclover and this Texas vervain (Verbena halei). Unlike the phlox, both of these plants have racemes of small flowers that are up off of the ground. The flowers themselves are tiny in comparison with the phlox, so when driving they are almost invisible, but when you stop to look around they’re all around. This spring has been pretty rainy so far, so there are a lot more flowers and more varieties than there were last year. For many reasons, including all the wildflowers, I much prefer this weather to the really dry weather we had last spring.
