Summer’s Beautiful Flowers are Fading into Autumn’s Important Seeds

As fall continues, the summer flowers are fading or have faded and we are now seeing many of them going to seed. I was outside taking advantage of the flowers that are left in my wild patches and trying to capture a few more butterflies before they are all gone. As I waded around in the blackjack, I realized I was getting covered in these seeds. I had been focusing on the flowers, but I decided to pay attention to the seeds for a little while. We tend to forget the importance of falls seeds, both as food for migrating and overwintering wildlife and as the hope for new life when spring arrives. This is one of several different images I took of the seeds. I actually softened the focus on the seeds just a little to give the image a slightly more relaxed and intimate feeling. I hope you like it!
