It’s always enjoyable when a northern parula (Setophaga americana) decides to make an appearance. They are beautifully marked little yellow and blue bundles of energy. Like most other warblers, they are insectivores and they are very energetic. They hop around from place to place, branch to branch in search of insects and caterpillars. Often they are high up in the trees and really difficult so see, but today this one was hunting in the pokeberry bushes that line my yard. It caught several small green caterpillars in those bushes in just a few minutes. It would sometimes stop and peek out of the bushes to see where the rowdy cardinals were, but none of them even noticed the parula. It was at one of those times that I snapped this image. I really liked the intense look on the little bird’s face. That pretty much sums up these little guys and girls. Intense, but beautiful.
