It’s Lots of Fun Watching Birds Take a Wonderful Bath

At the end my birding day today, as I walked back to my house, I interrupted this little tufted titmouse (Baeolophus bicolor) as she was taking a bath. She flew up into the nearby oak tree where she continued her cleaning routine by repeatedly fluffing her feathers, preening, flapping her wings, bobbing her tail, and stretching. She worked at getting every feather clean and back in place for quite a few minutes. The whole time, her mate stood by watching out for her and offering her a treat every now and then. When she was finally done, she took one last, long stretch, and ultimately accepted her treat.
