Beautiful Fall Color Can Show Up in Unusual Places

Florida is not well known for having beautiful fall colors and foliage. There certainly are places in the woods and along the roadways where there are trees and plants that have leaves that change color, but most of those areas also contain a lot of live oaks and pines that stay green year round. Those green trees definitely kind of dilute the effect. But if you keep your eyes open, especially late in the season, you can definitely spot some places that have beautiful fall colors. The area in this photo is deep in the underbrush in the woods of Gothe State Forest. I had followed a little Carolina chickadee into the area, and even after the little bird had moved on, I took a couple more shots simply because I liked the colors and the composition. It’s just a small area, hidden in the woods, but this is fall colors in Florida.
