Beautiful Wild Birds are Very Cautious By Nature

Most wild animals, even a lot of insects, tend to be very cautious of anything unknown. There are very few species that do not have something out there that can harm them. This is true even for apex predators. Small songbirds are very far from being apex predators. In order to stay alive, they must be constantly alert to the possibility of any danger. This little tufted titmouse (Baeolophus bicolor) was giving serious consideration to grabbing a bite at the feeding station when it heard a noise back in the woods. The crest raised, and it quickly looked over its shoulder for any sign of danger. I’m not sure what the bird heard or saw, since I heard and saw nothing, but it decided to delay a nibble and flew off in the opposite direction. I would much rather that the wildlife around here not get too used to people or other animals. Other than providing food and letting them get used to my presence as I sit quietly, I do nothing else to try to tame them. Although I would never harm them, there are many other people and other animals that would.
