Anoles are Cute Little Lizards that Can Be Colorful

Cuban or Bahamian brown anoles (Anolis sagrei) are considered an invasive species here in Florida and they have displaced our native green anoles into the tree tops. At first, scientists were worried that the brown anoles would lead to the extinction of the green anoles, but the green anoles are willing to go up into the trees, whereas the brown anoles prefer a more terrestrial existence. That’s not to say that they can’t climb trees; they absolutely can. They just don’t seem to do it as much as the green anoles do. This little baby anole was out in the woods one day when I was hiking. It was basking in the sun and seemed quite content to have its picture taken. Then, through some computer manipulations and some hand drawing, I used the photo to produce this piece of artwork.
