Carolina Chickadees are Happy, Energetic Little Birds

One of the most common birds that I’m seeing right now are the little Carolina chickadees (Poecile carolinensis). I’m sure some of the birds I’m seeing are young ones from this summer’s clutches, but unlike some of the larger birds, I can’t really tell the fledglings from the adults. These little birds are a lot of fun because they are little bundles of energy. They don’t stay put in most places for long, and you never know what they may do next. Most commonly, they grab a treat and take it up into the trees, but sometimes they will hover some place before landing or they will swerve just before landing. It’s great fun to watch, but sometimes makes photographing them difficult. Let’s just say, I throw away a lot of shots of them or shots of empty space. But persistence pays off, and some come out well, too.
