Fantasy and Playfulness are Right at Home in Art

Most of the time, my art is pretty realistic; sometimes even hyper-realistic, but I do enjoy the creative process and thinking outside the box, so sometimes I take a little bit of artistic license. Sometimes it’s just a minor thing, like painting the feet on my squirrel tree frog blue (they are actually a similar green to the rest of the body) and sometimes it’s a lot bigger. I’ve always enjoyed fantasy books and stories. I absolutely love how a good fantasy can take the mind and imagination to a whole different place. And this is true whether it’s a skillfully told story (because writing is most definitely an art form) or a piece of visual art. So today I felt like creating a new fantasy piece. The bird is one of my own photos, but I replaced the background and then added the stars and the bubble by hand. These fairly simple changes took a decent photo and changed it into something completely different, with (in my opinion) a much more interesting story to tell. And besides, it’s a lot of fun!
