Beautiful Carolina Chickadees Can Have A Quiet, Peaceful Side

Most of the time the little Carolina chickadees (Poecile carolinensis) are little bundles of energy and constantly on the go. They tend to be what I call grab and go feeders, grabbing something from the feeding station and taking it somewhere safer to eat it. This has to use up a lot of energy, but it seems to work for them. Every once in a while they do have a short, quiet moment, though. This little one had been back and forth to the feeding station quite a few times and I guess it was full for the moment. It decided to perch on an oak branch not too far from me and just chill for a few minutes. It did a little preening, fluffed itself a couple times, and then just relaxed. As you can see, the bird was very alert and paying attention to everything around it, but it was very comfortable. It stayed there for a few minutes, and then flew off into the woods with a couple of other chickadees that had been feeding. Just waiting for its friends, I guess.
