This was actually the sunset on the evening of December 29th, but December 30th and 31st were very cloudy and rainy, so there was no real visible sunset those evenings. The one we had on the 29th was quite spectacular, though. It was almost as if it the sun realized it needed to put on a good show to finish off the year. I had gone out for a walk after another hectic day at work and was almost home when I took this photo. I had been in the woods and could see that it was a gorgeous sunset, but the trees were blocking a good bit of it. I hustled out to the road as quickly as possible, and I thought I might have been too late, but it turned out that I was able to catch the tail end of it. Some of the earlier parts of the sunset had brighter colors, but I really liked the contrast of the sunset colors and the blue of the sky at this particular time. All in all, a pretty great send off for another year gone by.
