With so many beautiful plants and flowers around north central Florida, it’s sometimes hard to choose standouts. But one springtime standout is the prickly poppy (Argemone albiflora). Between its gorgeous yellow and red center and the textures of both the flower petals and the plant itself, it’s so much fun to photograph. All those cool qualities also inspire me to get a little creative with some of those images. This one was processed so that the colorful center was really emphasized by making the rest of the picture black and white. The black and white also brings out the folds and textures of the petals, so it’s a double bonus.
