Prickly Poppies are Beautiful, Especially After Rain
Prickly poppies (Argemone albiflora) are one of my favorite spring flowers, so I was very pleased when I found one covered in water droplets after the rain on Wednesday. When fully open, they are striking, large white flowers with a colorful center. The plant itself is covered in small prickles and has firm, spiky leaves. Between the flower and the plant there is color and texture galore, which makes them fun to photograph. Like the twiggy mullein flower, this prickly poppy flower was partially closed since the sun wasn’t out, but it still had beautiful texture in its damp, folded petals.
